a summer place

A quiet sunlit night, a spot in the shade, a glass of wine, and a good book to read.

This is where you will find me many summer nights.   When the field across the street is loud with the girls softball games several nights a week, I try to tune them out and escape to other worlds.  I am usually still there when the ice cream truck slowly passes by, music playing, looking for customers.  Or when the neighbors walk by with their dogs, deep in their own thoughts, they usually don't notice me tucked away in the corner, behind the lilac bushes.  In the middle of January, when the frigid winds rattle our old windowpanes, I daydream of this spot.

There are several reading spots in our yard, as small as it is.  There are the orange adirondacks, in the front yard under the pine trees.  A perfect spot for reading the morning paper and drinking coffee, as the working world heads down Hamline to temperature controlled office cubicles.

The cushioned glider on the patio-where I often bring my laptop to do my bookkeeping on a nice summer weekday.  It also makes a nice spot late at night, with candles glowing and my booklight helping me read until I start to fall asleep.  Or a place to host friends, who stop by for a glass of wine and a chat.

Do you have a favorite summer spot in your yard?  That you dream about on a blustery winter day?

  1. You really have a way with words, Kristi. I loved this post. Your yard and garden furniture are adorable. Love the white picket fence. Coveting the bright striped and solid pillows/cusions.
