finding time to read

Even though I was complaining about not having enough time to do all I want to do, last week circumstances gave me a chance to do a LOT of readng.  When I see books being reviewed in newspapers or magazines that I am interested in reading, I always make a request at our county library.  We have a FANTASTIC library, I can do everything on-line except pick up my book!

What usually happens is that two of the titles I have requested will be available at the same time, so then I have to figure out how to read two good books in just 10 days.  Fortunately, I suffer from occasional insomnia, and Claude has been MEOWING LIKE CRAZY at night and keeping me awake due to his recent illness, so the bright side is I got them read!

First up, Laura Lippman.  I read somewhere that she writes crime fiction, and being a fan of the genre I was surprised I hadn't read any of her books.  I have now:  "I'd Know You Anywhere" is a very interesting story of a woman who was abducted when she was 15, and held for several weeks.  She was rescued, and her abductor is now on death row for the murder of another young girl.  He contacts her prior to his planned execution, and disrupts the new life she has made for herself.  Very interesting, and I will be looking for more of her books.

Next up-"A Vintage Affair" by Isabel Wolff.   I am a fan of anything British, I religously read Elizabeth George and PD James and Martha Grimes, and record every week of Masterpiece Mystery.  If I don't get to England someday it will be a crime.  Pun intended!  This book isn't a mystery, but the fact that is has to do with vintage clothing caught my interest. 

I came down with a nasty cold and resultant sinus infection, so snuggling in with a soft blanket and a hot cup of tea and this book was ideal.  It really piqued my interest in vintage clothing, and I plan to find a store locally and have myself an adventure.

The books made it back to the library in time, and I was able to pick up my newest request:  Gail Godwin's "Unfinished Desires".  I am just on the first chapter, but it already seems like a winner. It is set in a small town in the mountains of North Carolina, at an all girls Catholic school. 

I nearly wish I could get sick again so I would have an excuse to snuggle in and read it!
