Army of Women

I will get to my titled topic soon, but first:

A bouquet of flowers to my dear friends and family, who have been so supportive in this last month.  One month ago today, I jumped into the world of Etsy and launched my online shop.  I have had 48 sales.  HOLY COW!!!!

I really didn't know what to expect, but it has been so gratifying to see people interested in what I do.  And I will be doing plenty more in the weeks to come.  Due to some computer issues, I have been unable to set up my earrings and necklaces, but they will be up soon.  Really.  I promise.  For sure.

I have plenty of new bracelet designs coming up, and I will be selling my things locally at a holiday boutique in November.  More fun to come!

Now on to today's topic.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Today is the official Army of Women Blog for Your Breasts Day.

What is the Army of Women, you may ask?  I joined over a year ago, ordinary women can help in the fight to PREVENT breast cancer.  I have already participated in one study, it was an on-line questionnaire that only took 15 minutes to complete, and hopefully the info I provided can help research that will save lives.

Once YOU join, you will receive occasional emails with a call for volunteers.  The parameters of the study will be outlined, and if you don't fit what they need, you simply decline the invitation.

If you haven't yet been affected by breast cancer among your family and friends, consider yourself lucky.  Odds are that it will touch you, at some point, in your life.

My aunt died of cancer that started in her breast, and spread throughout her body.  She chose to treat her disease in her own way, and lost the fight.  I think of her every time I go in for my mammogram.
I have seen in the last month how a small group of women can accomplish a LOT, just by spreading the word of my tiny shop.

You have a chance to have an even bigger voice.  Take a few minutes, and go here http://www.armyofwomen.org/ and join me in the Army of Women.  The goal is to sign one million women, and bloggers all over the world will be urging you to do the same thing today.  Come on, join me in the Army!

And watch for a special bracelet give-away in a few days that celebrates the hope and support that women provide each other.

  1. I just received the call early this morning that my cousin died late last night after her long battle with breast cancer. Younger than me, and leaves behind 2 small kids, a devastated husband, and a mother full of grief. Damn you cancer.
